In 2020, North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW), a federal state in Germany, saw a slight increase in the production value of fruit and vegetable products to 2.53 billion euros, a 1.5% rise from the previous year. The Cologne district alone accounted for nearly half (49.2%) of these productions. However, the volume of fruit and nuts processed experienced a decrease of 5.5%, and so did the production of non-alcoholic fruit and vegetable juices, down by 14.3%. At a national level, the production value of fruit and vegetable products reached 8.0 billion euros, with NRW contributing 31.7% to this total. Industrial production of these products in NRW fell by 3.8% in the first quarter of 2021 compared to the same period in 19, with a sales value of 570 million euros.
