In 2021, Russia saw a record harvest of fruits and berries, with a gross harvest of 3.9 million tons, marking a 7% increase from the previous year. This growth is primarily due to the creation of modern intensive orchards and nurseries. The main crop, apples, made up 95% of the fruit harvest. The leading regions for fruit and berry production include the Krasnodar Territory, Kabardino-Balkaria, Crimea, and Dagestan. The Ministry of Agriculture is supporting producers through subsidies, preferential lending, and grants. The goal is to reach self-sufficiency with fruits and berries by 2027, with a target to double production by 2025. However, the industry faces the challenge of overproduction due to increased domestic competition and imports.
