[Livestock and Fisheries News=Reporter Park Hyun-ryul] The Jeju Stud Farm of the Korea Racing Authority, which opened on May 19, 1995, on a 2,145,000 square meter (650,000 pyeong) site in Gyorae-ri, Jocheon-eup, Jeju, celebrated its 30th anniversary last Friday. The Jeju Stud Farm was born as a result of a mid- to long-term policy established by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry in 1991 to improve the self-sufficiency rate of domestic racehorses, which was only 5% in the 1980s. In 2002, the Jeju Stud Farm achieved its original 10-year goal of a 75% self-sufficiency rate early by producing 550 domestic horses annually. Currently, it produces around 1,400 domestic horses annually and directly aims to strengthen the production capacity of private farms.
