Argentine slaughterhouses saw a 7% increase in beef exports in February compared to the same month in 2022, totaling 51.5 million tons of product weight or nearly 73,000 tons of bone-in beef. The majority of the exports, approximately 77%, were shipped to China. This increase in sales is due to the anticipated departure of cows from breeding fields due to a lack of pasture, leading to a decrease in cow prices, which have fallen from 187 pesos per kilo in the same period last year to 224 pesos per kilo in March of this year, despite accumulated inflation above 100% and increased forage costs due to drought.
