The Romanian police carried out eight searches as part of an investigation into the sale of fruit with high pesticide content, which were allegedly imported from Egypt and presented with falsified origin, reported the Bucharest Police Headquarters, cited by Agerpres and BTA. The operation was carried out by the Economic Crimes Investigation Service of the Bucharest Police Directorate and in the Ilfov and Ialomita districts. The actions are part of a proceeding for alleged crimes related to tax evasion, food and other product counterfeiting, as well as document fraud, notes the Romanian agency. According to the investigators, representatives of a trading company offered for sale about 12,400 kilograms of fruit imported from Egypt.
