In the first five months of this year, the cumulative output of major fishmeal producing areas in the world increased by 40% year-on-year

The significant year-on-year increase in Peruvian anchovy supplies was the main factor behind this growth. The first 2024 anchovy season in Peru’s North-Central fishing zone ended in June with over 98% of the quota fulfilled. Considering that Peru accounts for around a fifth of global fishmeal supply in an average year, IFFO sees this as a very positive sign for the fishery and feed industries. Peru will also have a second season this year under an independently set quota that takes into account biomass. In Peru’s Southern Fishing Zone, the first season ended with a catch slightly above the first season quota by 10%, and a new quota for the second season has been announced, with operations starting on 1 July.
