Pork consumption in Ukraine has decreased by 30% in the past five years, according to Olga Makhno, a pig expert with the Association of Livestock Breeders of Ukraine. The selling price of pork has remained around $1.5 per kilogram, while the cost of feed has increased by 20-40% since 2019, leading to a loss in profitability for pig farming. The Association warns that further price increases will negatively impact small and medium-sized businesses. In the first half of 2021, pork imports to Ukraine exceeded exports by a ratio of six to one, with the majority of imports coming from Denmark.
