In Ukraine, a decrease in onion prices is being recorded, despite seasonal inventory reduction, as the pricing dynamics are influenced by consumer complaints about product quality and reduced purchase volumes. East-Fruit reports. Today, Ukrainian farmers are offering onions at a price of 16 – 26 UAH/kg, whereas just last week the minimum cost did not drop below 18 UAH/kg. Over the week, wholesale prices in the segment have decreased by an average of 12%. Currently, onions in Ukraine cost approximately 12% cheaper than during the same period last year. Market participants remain quite pessimistic: product quality in storage continues to deteriorate, and demand remains low. Buyers are increasingly expressing dissatisfaction with product quality and reducing purchase volumes. Because of this, producers are forced to lower prices, as wholesale companies have begun to impose stricter requirements on product quality and refuse to buy substandard onions.
