Yeonggwang County (Mayor Jang Se-il) announced that 40,000 abalone seeds were released into the Anmado sea area in Nakwol-myeon on the 15th to restore coastal marine resources. The abalone is a sedentary species that lives around the release area and has a high recapture rate. The Anmado coast is abundant in seaweed and wakame, which are abalone food, and consists of bedrock terrain suitable for abalone habitat, so the release effect is expected to be very high. The abalone released this time are expected to grow to over 10 cm in 2 to 3 years, reaching marketable size at around 5 cm. Local residents said, "Compared to before, the abalone catch has decreased significantly due to climate change, including rising water temperatures."
