Incheon City is set to adjust the tuna fishing ban in response to the expansion of border waters in 2024, aiming to increase the income of local fishermen. The tuna fishing ban period will be moved up by about 20 days, from May 1 to April 10 to May 10, on a trial basis. This change is part of a deregulation project by the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, as tuna fishing in Incheon has been challenging due to the overlapping ban and fishing season. The city anticipates an annual economic impact of over 1 billion won from this adjustment, especially benefiting small-scale fishermen who rely on tuna as their main source of income.
