(Chuncheon=Yonhap News) Reporter Park Young-seo = The Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province's Agricultural Policy Bureau's Livestock Technology Research Institute announced on the 9th that it has distributed 30 high-quality female cows to 14 farms in Donghae and 10 to 5 farms in Goseong to improve the productivity of Hanwoo farms in the province and strengthen their self-reliance base.
The distribution of high-quality female cows is a program that selects cows based on a comprehensive evaluation of genetic ability and productivity and supplies them first to small farms with weak breeding bases, thereby directly confirming the improvement effect and supporting the production of excellent calves.
From 2015 to the present, a total of 270 cows have been distributed to 135 farms in 9 cities and counties in the province.
The "breeding value," an indicator showing how much excellent genetic ability can be passed on to future generations, shows high genetic ability in growth and overall carcass traits, contributing to the increase in farm income, management stability, and enhancement of competitiveness.
Agricultural Policy Bureau Director Seok Sung-gyun said, "The distribution of high-quality female cows is an important program that helps the balanced development and strengthening of the self-reliance base of farms," and added, "We will prepare customized support measures in the future."
