In February, U.S. milk production slightly increased, reaching nearly 18 billion pounds, a slight less than one percent increase. This was due to a larger, more productive herd with a total of 37,000 more head compared to the previous year, and 12,000 more compared to the previous month. South Dakota and Iowa experienced the largest increases in milk production, up nine and nearly seven percent respectively, while Florida reported the largest decrease, over 14 percent. Michigan continued to lead in per cow output at 2,285 pounds.
