The Indian Ministry of Consumer Affairs and Food has decided to immediately halt the overseas sales of non-basmati white rice due to increasing domestic rice prices caused by heavy rain damaging the crop. Non-basmati rice accounts for around 25 percent of India's total rice exports and is mainly exported to Asian and African countries. This decision has raised concerns about possible increases in global food prices and has also affected the Vietnamese rice market, prompting calls for ensuring local rice supplies and food security in Vietnam.
