The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India has confirmed that prunes from plums are considered a processed food product and are not required to carry a non-Genetically Modified status certificate. This confirmation comes following queries from the FAS New Delhi office of the USDA. The clarification applies to 24 specific food items and excludes processed food products in general. In 2020, U.S. prune exports to India reached a value close to $1 million.
