India's palm oil production is projected to significantly increase to 1.2 to 1.5 million metric tons by 2030-31, a tripling from the current production of 400,000 tons, as the country expands its oil palm plantations and existing plantations reach maturity. This increase in production could help India reduce its reliance on imported edible oils, which currently account for two-thirds of its total consumption. The area under oil palm cultivation in India has been increasing rapidly since 2021, aided by government incentives, and is expected to grow by an additional 80,000 to 100,000 hectares this year. Godrej Agrovet, the country's largest palm oil producer, anticipates that its production will double to 250,000 tons by 2030-31.
