REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, CIKAMPEK — The government is starting to build Indonesia's first NPK nitrate factory to reduce dependency on fertilizer imports. Domestic production is expected to lower agricultural production costs and strengthen national food security. Deputy Minister of Agriculture Sudaryono said the 100,000-ton-per-year factory is targeted to start operating in 2027. The factory is being built by PT Pupuk Kujang in Cikampek, West Java. "We are replacing an old factory because it is no longer efficient. So we hope that not only will productivity increase, but we can also lower production costs, and this can also substitute for fertilizer imports," said Sudaryono after the groundbreaking ceremony for the factory, Tuesday (12/23/2025), according to a press release on Wednesday (12/24/2025).
