Italy: Industrial tomato, price negotiation stopped

Two months after the last meeting, negotiations between the agricultural and industrial sides have resumed in the Northern Italy Basin for the definition of the Framework Agreement for the management of the next tomato processing campaign. During the last meeting, the industrial part, with a view to rewarding the cultivation of industrial tomatoes, reaffirmed their willingness to recognize an increase in the average reference price which could compensate for the increase in costs which weighed on the agricultural sector in the last transformation campaign also taking into account the difficulties farmers are experiencing in accessing finance. Even in the presence of an unfavorable economic context and a stalemate in consumption linked to the economic crisis, the industrial part has confirmed its commitment to recognize a 20% increase compared to the average reference price recognized in 2022 which leads to a increase of around 40% in the two-year period 2021-2023.
