In 2022, Bulgaria saw a record high food inflation, despite stable pork prices. The average pork price was BGN 9.53/kg at the start of the year, which decreased to BGN 9.27/kg by the end of the year. However, international pork prices saw a significant increase of 53.6% from January to August, before decreasing in later months. Bean prices were an exception, seeing a 6% increase from 2021, but remaining relatively stable for most of the year. Despite this inflation, the average salary in Bulgaria reached almost BGN 2,000, helping to offset the inflation.
