INIA will release new line of guinea pig with better meat quality

The National Institute of Agricultural Innovation (INIA) announced the upcoming release of its new line of Merino guinea pigs, developed with high genetic quality. This line stands out for its ability to produce excellent quality meat, with an optimal level of fat and flavor, in addition to outstanding characteristics such as an ideal carcass size, adequate muscle mass, and a balanced body conformation. This line of guinea pigs, developed at INIA's La Molina Experimental Center, will allow families linked to this production chain to have access to technology and breeders with genetic and sanitary guarantees, favoring the increase in economic profitability and the promotion of food security. Among its main characteristics, it highlights its notable weight level in reproduction. When the breeder has single litters, the percentage of the total litter weight at birth in relation to the mother's weight at delivery is 12.7%.
