A research member from the National Institute for Fisheries Research and Development (INIDEP), Lic. Mercedes Berrueta, participated in a course at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) focusing on the biology, fisheries, and cephalopod farming. The course, led by Dr. Carlos Rosas, aimed to understand the adaptability of octopods to environmental changes and optimal conditions for their cultivation. Berrueta presented INIDEP's work on the cultivation of Octopus tehuelchus in a Recirculating Aquaculture System (RAS) and taught the use of a portable ultrasound machine to determine the sex and maturity of octopuses, seahorses, and pompano fish, potentially leading to a collaboration between INIDEP and UNAM.
