The production volume of inland fisheries stands at a modest 45,447 tons as of 2024, accounting for 1.1% of the country's total fishery production of 3.61 million tons, but it produces a variety of freshwater eel (snake eel), trout, catfish, and dace, meeting the demand for national food. Despite this, inland fisheries account for a small proportion of the total fishery production and receive relatively little attention, prompting inland fishermen to express the need for attention and support from the central government, local governments, and fishery organizations. Research Fellow Park Ji-hoon from the Fisheries Economic Research Institute of the National Federation of Fisheries Cooperatives mentioned in a research report on inland fisheries.
