The Iran Aquatic Products Production and Trade Alliance, comprising seafood processors, exporters and importers, aquaculture entrepreneurs, feed producers, and retailers, stated that since 2022, the country's shrimp farming industry has developed well, with exports continuously growing. The alliance indicated that in 2024, Iran exported approximately 29,400 tons of shrimp, valued at $97.4 million, surpassing the 16,400 tons exported in 2022. Despite the challenges facing Iran's shrimp farming industry, including international trade sanctions, climate change, and inadequate biosecurity measures, the alliance stated that the country's shrimp industry has made significant progress in terms of hatchery infrastructure, feed mills, packaging and processing plants, supporting industries, and professional talent resources. The alliance predicted that by 2026, Iran's shrimp production will increase to 60,000 tons, and according to Iran's Seventh National Development Plan, the national plan aims to increase fish production from the current 1.4 million tons to 1.8 million tons. The plan includes over 150 projects related to the seafood industry, with a total investment of $42.5 million.
