Irish shellfish demand in China has surged, with a 55.6% increase in the first half of 2024 compared to the same period in the previous year, as per Bord Bia, Ireland's food exports promotion agency. The overall growth in Irish seafood exports to China was 35.9% year on year, contributing to an 20.3% rise in Irish seafood exports to Asia, reaching EUR 46.9 million (USD 52 million). However, exports to Africa remained stagnant and there was an 11.4% decrease in sales to North America. The demand in the European Union (EU), Ireland's primary market, has also seen a recovery, with a 9% increase in shipments to the EU's 27 member states, and the UK market experienced a 25.1% growth.
