Ireland's Agriculture Minister, Charlie McConalogue, has announced a contribution of €450,000 to a United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) project to support potato farming in Ukraine. The project aims to transport 500 tons of certified seed potatoes to the country, which will be distributed to 10,000 small growers in rural areas. Grown in the Netherlands and France by an Irish company, IPM Potato, these seed potatoes are specially bred for Ukraine's agro-ecological conditions and have the potential to supply 7,000 tons of ware potatoes, meeting the annual consumption needs of 45,000-50,000 people. This initiative is part of Ireland's efforts to rebuild Ukraine's horticultural capacity and support rural families affected by the war.
