"It is time to put America first and save our pear producers," begins a statement issued by California Pears, an association that brings together pear producers in that U.S. state, which recently expressed concern over the increase in imports of that fruit from Argentina. "The pear-producing families of California are being displaced by pears cultivated on the other side of the world. Argentine imports are flooding the supermarkets at the least suitable time of the year, just when California farmers are preparing to harvest their juicy, high-quality fruit," reads the letter, through which the farmers of that country requested support from the Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR).
