LVN Limited, a large alcohol company, warned that a 5% increase in the excise tax on alcoholic beverages would increase the minimum cost of a 0.5 liter bottle of vodka by 3% to UAH 95. The company's CEO, Yuriy Sorochynskyi, argued that the price increase would not boost state budget revenues, as the shadow sector is significant. He also highlighted that the annual production and sales of vodka and vodka products have been decreasing since 2017. In 2017, a 20% increase in the excise tax rate failed to generate an additional 1.5 billion hryvnia for the state budget and instead led to a decrease in revenues.
