In the Silifke district of Mersin, Turkey, the strawberry harvesting season has transitioned from early-season covered production to open field harvesting. This area, a major hub for strawberry cultivation, produces around 80 thousand tons annually on 20 thousand decares of land. With the commencement of open harvesting, strawberry prices have decreased from 120 TL to 50 TL. The harvest, which significantly contributes to the local economy and provides employment, especially for women, is expected to continue until June 15. These strawberries are not only distributed throughout Turkey but are also exported internationally, marking the seasonal shift from winter's soilless agriculture and greenhouse production to spring and summer's open field cultivation.
