The price of pumpkin seeds have seen a significant increase of 100 percent since the pandemic due to both higher demand and increased exports. The product, commonly sold for between 60-80 TL in retail, was previously priced between 20-25 lira in wholesale and 36-38 lira in retail during the previous year. The fluctuating prices are largely dependent on the stock availability, with the high demand and uncertain yield contributing to the price hike. The President of the Whole Nuts Industrialists and Businessmen Association (TÜRKSİAD) and the President of the Istanbul Chickpea Manufacturers and Nuts Crafts Chamber (İSTESOB) attribute the price increase to the imbalance in supply and demand, and caution that prices may continue to fluctuate based on demand and climatic conditions.
