The organic farm Agricoltura Nuova is located just outside the large highway ring around Rome, but nothing makes you feel close to a city of millions. The rolling green hills, the dirt road leading to the farm, the enormous flock of sheep blocking the road. Here you are in the countryside. Agricoltura Nuova has been around since 1977. 'Next year we will have been around for fifty years,' says founder and director Carlo Patacconi proudly. In the late seventies, he and some companions squatted a dilapidated farm that, according to the plans of the municipality of Rome, should make way for a new residential area. The squatters started keeping animals and growing vegetables. 'We wanted to keep the land for agriculture and opposed more cement.' The company started from an ideal, but nobody had ever worked on the land. Patacconi: 'We were all students with a mission, but without experience.'
