In 2019, Mexico exported $1,265 million worth of goods, primarily avocados, lemons, and pork, to Japan, making it Mexico's sixth largest trading partner. Aristóteles Vaca Pérez, an agro-industrial specialist, believes there is potential for Mexico to increase these exports. During a videoconference, Melba Pría, the Mexican ambassador to Japan, highlighted that Japan imports 65% of its food. The main products traded between Mexico and Japan are currently auto parts and industrial and automotive machinery. Vaca Pérez stresses the importance of Mexican companies increasing their presence in the Asian market and notes that the 2019 exports to Japan included not only these primary products but also mangoes, melons, asparagus, agave syrup, and tequila.
