Japan's Ministry of Environment has proposed to add crayfish and colorful Brazilian turtles to the list of 'specified alien organisms' under the Alien Organisms Act, due to their negative impact on the ecosystem and crops. The proposal aims to regulate their import, sale, and release into the wild, while allowing their keeping as pets. The proposal will be summarized in August. The original crayfish and turtles were introduced from the US and have reproduced in Japan, leading to a decline in local species.
