In the second quarter of 2023, Japan surpassed the US to become the largest import market for Vietnamese seafood, with an export turnover of $713 million. This shift is due to a drop in seafood exports to the US, mainly caused by a large inventory of shrimp and pangasius, rising inflation, and decreased demand. China is the third largest market, with a turnover of $636 million, but the Chinese economy's recovery from the Covid-19 pandemic is limited, leading to lower import volume and prices.
