The Jeju Special Self-Governing Province has provided a subsidy to a seed complex producing high-quality 'Yangjeol' buckwheat seeds, aiming to boost domestically bred buckwheat cultivation and improve seed self-sufficiency in the region. The seeds undergo strict quality control measures before distribution. Despite Jeju being the largest buckwheat producing region in Korea, issues have been encountered with the use of cheap, imported seeds of unknown varieties, leading to problems like the introduction of foreign weeds and pests. The Rural Development Administration has been producing and supplying 'Yangjeol' buckwheat seeds since 2020 and plans to continue this initiative to increase domestic buckwheat production and enhance the competitiveness of the buckwheat industry.
