President Joko Widodo of Indonesia is promoting the development of alternative foods to reduce the country's reliance on wheat imports, amidst global food crisis concerns. These alternatives include sorghum, cassava, and sago. Musdhalifah Machmud, the head of Deputy II of the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs, explained that the sorghum development is aimed at increasing food diversity rather than replacing wheat. This move is expected to decrease wheat consumption and imports, thereby enhancing national food security.
