President Joko Widodo visited Merauke, South Papua Province, to inspect the installation of 1.9 million sugarcane seeds from Australia, brought to reduce the risk of pests and diseases. The Indonesian Quarantine Agency (Barantin) implements strict quarantine measures, including risk analysis, document checks, physical inspections, laboratory testing, and six-month observation of seed growth. These steps ensure the safety of local plants and the optimal use of Australian seeds. The visit included an inspection of the tissue culture laboratory and the first sugarcane planting of the Downstream Project, Sugar Factory, and Bioethanol Factory in Merauke.
