The French Minister of Agriculture has responded to disturbing videos released by the L214 association, which exposed cruel practices at a pig farm in Yonne, such as abuse with screwdrivers and matadors, misuse of electric shock, and disregard for pain management. The minister condemned these practices and mentioned an ongoing investigation following a complaint in June 2021. The ministry also highlighted the forthcoming prohibition of live castration of piglets in France, effective January 1, 2022, and the requirement for each farm to designate an animal welfare representative. Furthermore, the France Relance plan has allocated over €200 million to enhance biosecurity and animal welfare in the farming sector.
