In June, Spain experienced a significant surge in alfalfa exports, with sales reaching nearly 123,000 tons, a 23,000-ton increase compared to the same period in 2019. The Spanish Association of Manufacturers of Dehydrated Alfalfa (AEFA) reported that bullet format alfalfa accounted for 65 percent of global sales, while the remainder was pellets. The United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia were the main importers of the bullet format, and Saudi Arabia preferred pellets. The top buyers were the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, China, Jordan, South Korea, France, Kuwait, Portugal, Japan, and Italy. However, the sector faces challenges in July and August due to COVID-19, including a shortage of ships and containers for export.
