The National Water Authority (ANA) developed an awareness campaign on the reduction of the water footprint aimed at students from the educational institutions Sagrados Corazones and Ecológica Innova, in the district of Pilcomayo, Huancayo province, Junín region. The initiative sought to promote responsible water use in schools and strengthen environmental awareness in the student community. During the event, Water Culture specialists, along with members of the Mantaro Basin Youth Water Network, explained in a didactic manner the concept of water footprint (WF), an environmental indicator that measures the volume of fresh water—in liters or cubic meters—used throughout the production chain of goods and services. The students learned how much water is required to produce food, uniforms, school supplies, and other everyday products, thus understanding the cross-sectional value of water in all productive processes.
