The Ministry of Agriculture pointed out that Kazakhstan's production of vegetable oil and sunflower oil has already exceeded domestic consumption needs by 2.2 times. The annual domestic market consumption is 331,000 tons of vegetable oil and 281,000 tons of sunflower oil, while the actual production is far higher than this. Due to limited domestic demand for canola oil, related products are mainly used for export.
Data shows that the total production of vegetable oil in 2024 reached 757,000 tons, an increase of 12.6% from 672,000 tons in 2023. Among them, sunflower oil production was 640,000 tons, and canola oil was 60,700 tons.
The production in the first nine months of this year increased by 23.3% compared to the same period last year (from 519,400 tons to 640,500 tons), with sunflower oil increasing by 26.7% (from 443,500 tons to 562,100 tons) and canola oil increasing by 14.3% (from 34,100 tons to 38,900 tons).
In addition, in 2024, five new vegetable oil production projects were added nationwide, with a total production capacity of 79,200 tons/year; by the end of 2025, it is planned to implement four new projects, adding a production capacity of 251,000 tons/year.
The vegetable oil produced in Kazakhstan, in addition to supplying the domestic market, is mainly exported to China, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, and Kyrgyzstan; canola oil and flaxseed oil are mainly sold to China, and soybean oil is exported to Uzbekistan.
