Kenya is pursuing to expand its horticultural exports to China, as stated by Ojepat Okisegere, CEO of the Kenya Fresh Produce Alliance. The country aims to tap into China's large horticulture market to earn more revenue than the traditional European market. In 2020, Kenya's horticulture exports amounted to approximately US$1.36 billion. The country is looking to diversify its markets and reduce dependence on a single market by increasing exports to China, which currently includes frozen avocados and flowers. Kenya also plans to leverage its developed air and sea transportation to expand horticultural exports and increase output by using its suitable land for growing flowers, fruits, and vegetables.
