Kenyan avocado exports to the Chinese market have seen a significant decline, with a 80% decrease in shipments and an 82% decrease in earnings compared to the previous year. In the first seven months of 2024, Kenya exported 742,934 kilograms of avocados to China, down from 3,674,463 kilograms in the same period of the previous year. Despite the potential of China's large population, its low avocado consumption compared to Europe has led Kenyan producers to shift their focus back to the European Union, which accounted for nearly 15 times the quantity of avocados shipped to China in the same period. Nevertheless, Kenyan producers see potential in markets such as China, India, and the Middle East for long-term growth.
