Indonesia: KKP regrets the actions of residents after a whale shark was stranded in Cianjur

Panennews.com- The Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) has again received reports of misuse of the use of protected biota species by the public. It was previously reported that on Sunday (26/9/2021) at around 11.00 WIB, a whale shark (Rhincodon typus) was found stranded on Cirarangan Sindangbarang Beach, Cianjur Regency, West Java Province. The marine life, which is estimated to be 4-6 meters long and weighs 1.5 – 2 tons, was found by residents around Cirarangan Beach (edge fishermen) who were going to fish in Talagasari Village, Sindangbarang District, Cianjur Regency, in a dead condition. Ironically, the fish were cut into pieces and consumed by local residents. The KKP regrets this action considering that the Whale Shark is a marine biota that is fully protected by the state. Plt.
