Private fisheries organizations from Korea and Japan have committed to collaborate on climate change research and information exchange. The decision was made during the 18th Korea-Japan Private Fisheries Council in Japan, where the status of the Korea-Japan Private Fisheries Agreement for 2024 was discussed and future directions were planned. Both nations stressed the importance of monitoring the resource status of the East China Sea and seeking sustainable fisheries practices. The meeting also saw the Korean representatives requesting Japan's cooperation to resume mutual access to the Exclusive Economic Zone, which has been suspended since 2016.
