(Seoul=Yonhap News) Reporter Kim Yoon-gu = It has been found that Kyochon Chicken outlets have expanded the so-called dual pricing system (delivery app pricing) where delivery app menu prices are higher than in-store prices.
According to the franchise industry on the 18th, some Kyochon Chicken outlets have recently raised the delivery app price of their boneless chicken menu by approximately 2,000 won.
The recommended consumer prices for Honey Boneless Chicken, Honey Garlic Boneless Chicken, Mara Red Boneless Chicken, and Half-and-Half Boneless Chicken are 23,000 won, but several outlets have raised the delivery app price of the boneless chicken menu to 25,000 won.
The boneless chicken menu has been controversial due to shrinkflation (reducing the quantity while keeping the price the same).
Kyochon Chicken had mixed chicken breast with the previously used only chicken legs in the boneless chicken menu in September, reducing the total weight by about 30%, but due to strong criticism, they decided to revert the weight to its original amount starting from the 20th. They will also change the mixture back to 100% chicken legs.
Previously, most store owners in the Seoul area of Kyochon Chicken raised the delivery app prices of Honey Combo, Red Combo, Soy Sauce Combo, and Half-and-Half Combo by about 2,000 won in September, citing the heavy burden of delivery app fees.
Kyochon Chicken stated, "While the headquarters can recommend prices, it cannot control them to be raised or lowered by a certain amount."
