Kyrgyzstan has seen a doubling of its imports of fresh fruits from Iran in the first nine months of 2024, with trade volumes reaching 2,200 tons valued at $1.5 million, up from 1,200 tons worth $746,000 in the same period last year. This shift indicates a growing dominance of Iran in Kyrgyzstan's fruit market and expanding bilateral trade ties, as Uzbekistan follows as the second-largest exporter. The increase in fruit imports comes with a 24 percent decline in Kyrgyzstan's imports of grapes and raisins from China, reflecting a shift in sourcing preferences. The surge in trade is supported by recent agreements between the two nations for the use of Iranian trade routes and ports, aiming to facilitate smoother trade routes for agricultural goods and other commodities. The positive momentum in trade relations is expected to further boost Iran's agricultural exports to Central Asia, including citrus fruits, apples, and melons.
