The global demand for citrus fruits has decreased due to the COVID-19 pandemic, resulting in a drop in international citrus trade. Peru, which primarily participates in the mandarin category, represents 5.8% of the total world trade and almost 25% of the southern hemisphere trade. However, Peru has experienced a contraction in demand and volume, attributed to global trends, high margins for supermarkets, and poor public policies in the agricultural sector. The sector has also faced challenges such as increased transportation rates, geopolitical conflicts, and unfavorable exchange rates, leading to the closure of companies and a reduction in job opportunities.
