With the same enthusiasm as in previous years, the peasant community of Cahuide, in the district and province of Santiago de Chuco (La Libertad), announced the holding of the 2025 Chaccu Touristic and Regional and Vicuna Festival, on the 22nd, 23rd, and 24th of this year. The program includes the traditional ceremony of the Payment to the Earth at Cerro Shama, as well as rodeo, capture and shearing of vicuñas, an artisanal and gastronomic fair, a contest of typical dances, an artistic evening, sports, and the classic chasqui race. The vicuña park of the Cahuide community, located at more than 4100 m above sea level, currently houses about 1500 specimens, offspring of the 300 breeding females introduced in 2005. The annual fiber production ranges between 10 and 30 kilos; last year only 11 kilos were reached (72 vicuñas sheared), but for this 2025 it is expected to double that figure. ...
