The Department of Plant Health of the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock in Brazil has approved the Phytopathology Laboratory of Embrapa Cassava and Fruticulture to issue reports for citrus wart disease, a fungal disease caused by Elsinoë spp. that is not present in the European Union. This is essential for exports of Tahiti lemon and acid lime from Brazil, particularly from the state of Bahia, as the absence of a health report makes shipping to the EU difficult. The laboratory issues reports within one to ten days, and the report, valid for 30 days, must be presented with the production unit. The increase in interceptions of Elsinoë spp. in Brazil does not indicate a rise in the problem but shows greater European vigilance in detecting the pest, leading to the mandatory report for warts to ensure compliance of shipments and improve production practices.
