Lack of straw can cause problems in animal management on farms and in mushroom cultivation in Spain

It is a wake-up call made by Agro-food Cooperatives of Spain. This entity has transferred to the Ministry of Agriculture "the great concern among farmers for the lack and price of straw, as a result of the drought that is affecting a large part of the Iberian Peninsula; Added to this situation is the mushroom sector, which needs this raw material as a base for its production”. In reference to this problem, Cooperativas Agro-alimentarias de España publishes the following reflections: "The stock forecasts for next winter do not speak of an improvement in the situation in terms of availability and, therefore, a lower price is not predicted either. We may find ourselves during the coming winter with an important problem in the management of animals within farms, especially in cattle, sheep and goats, where straw is used to a greater extent.
