Taiwan's President-elect Lai Ching-te and Vice President Hsiao Bi-chin hosted a shrimp fishing event for heads of state and officials from diplomatic allies a day before the inauguration ceremony. The event was part of Lai Ching-te's 'creative diplomacy' approach, aiming to promote Taiwan's culture and values to international friends. The leaders of 11 diplomatic allies attended the event, including the King and Queen of Eswatini and the Presidents of the Marshall Islands and Paraguay. Lai Ching-te reiterated his commitment to maintaining the status quo in the Taiwan Strait and building a prosperous Taiwan. The Taiwan Coast Guard Administration also increased patrols and law enforcement capabilities around the presidential inauguration to ensure maritime and border security.
